Chinese Firms Reject American Degrees

I have argued in this blog that far too many of our universities are delivering degrees but not education.  This is even true at many “elite” universities.  (See the book Academically Adrift for data that show how much worse university education has become across the spectrum in the past 30 years.)  According to an article in the July 6th issue of The Economist Chinese firms are now discovering this.  “…many of the latest wave [of college graduates from the West] are of lower quality…many families…have spent a fortune on degrees from universities of dubious quality…” (page 41 of The Economist)

This also seems to give credibility to Silicon Valley’s complaint that it can’t find enough well educated Americans to fill its job needs.
